The Ice Ride
Period: Conceptual Phase
Countries: France, Switzerland, Austria Collaborators: University of Lausanne
Outcome: Documentary
A journey in the bleeding heart of the Alps, intimately unifying scientific research and athletes.
Context:
Glaciers are a source of water and life, holding the Alpine the key to our most precious resource: Water. Their heartbeat is vital, ranging from ensuring flow of the Rhine to generating hydro-power in adjacent nations.
Vast Alpine landscape lay waiting, permafrost melting does not. Glacier degradation is ongoing and irreversible.
Project:
The journey unifies faces of different passions and lifestyles by kindling the love for nature that unites us. Athletes and scientists come together to complete a West to East traverse of deteriorating Alpine Glaciers. The intimate, raw, camping gas coffee fueled adventure, aims to solidify one self’s inner peace and understand the glaciers’ fluttering heartbeat.
Passionate alpinists, rock-climbers, skiers and ultra-swimmers of different ages and nationalities will join to express themselves in the vast and evolving alpine terrain. Climate change awareness and scientific research, supported by prof. F.Herman (University of Lausanne) and Dr. Günther Prasicek (University of Salzburg), is the unspoken ‘fil rouge’ of the journey. Collaborating with the universities, we bring a scientifically backed ethic-based narrative. In doing so, we attempt to bridge the dichotomy between academia and social consciousness.
Goal:
The project will produce a documentary and photo gallery cherishing the unique stories and skills of the team. Developing these stimuli, we call for a meaningful movement: You are you own Water Ambassador.
